Since I was 10 years old I've been helping my family with the harvest of the grapes. I grew up in a small town call Villarubia de Ojos. This town has less than 13000 in population. Everyone lives from the wine the town produces. When it's harvest time the whole town smells like wine, just like it smells when wine is pour on the table.
The harvesting time can last at least 8 hours. People spend this 8 hours crouched down. You have to work in pair with a big bucket that is called "Esporton" . It can carry up to 25 kg. When 2 grapevines are finished you work with the next two and when the bucket is full it goes to the big orange shovel that can carry up to 60kg and we can see in the next picture.
After finishing the job the grapes are taken to the wine cellar. First the acidity degree is taken. With this, the quality of the grape can be determined. White grape acidity vary between 10 and 12 degrees and the red grape between 12 and 15. After this, the wine is taken to the barrels and that's where we get our good wine.
